It took me about 6 months to start a blog about my son, Kabir. I suppose I could have gotten to this much earlier, but I was too busy enjoying and relishing this precious time with him. Now that I am heading back to work on Friday (EEK!), I am starting to get to the things on my "To Do" list and hoping to cross some things off of it. So here's to crossing off #10.
Kabir was born on Tuesday, April 6th in a most unusual way- he was wholly unexpected to arrive that early! I had been planning on going to work that Monday but the higher power that is decided my fate otherwise. I'll spare you all the gory details, and suffice it to say, that both Kishore and I (and my mom for that matter who was there to support us during the whole ride) survived. And what a ride it has been since then!
From learning how to take care of such a small being to being comfortable with my decisions as his mother, I feel like these past 6 months have been a rebirth for myself.
So the Tales of Kabir Narayan begin with what he is doing now: We started Kabir on solids a couple of weeks ago (on Ganesh Chaturji) and it has been so fun to see how he responds to eating new textures. We introduced bananas last week and today, I am going to try butternut squash (go Beaba Cook! my favorite new baby gadget). I love seeing his face when he tries something new- and it amazes me that though his face says otherwise, he continues to follow the spoon, drool and open his mouth for some more.
Yesterday we had a mini-breakthrough. Instead of simply eating whatever it is that I am feeding him, he was discriminate in what he wanted to eat. I had the rice cereal/banana mixture in one bowl and some water in another. After some time of eating the solid mixture, I gave him some water. Now, Kabir is a very observant baby. He followed the spoon to the source and realized that one bowl had the stuff he liked and the other had the stuff he didn't want. When the spoon arrived at his mouth with the unsavory mixture, he closed his mouth and when it arrived with his desire, he would open his mouth. It never ceases to amaze and amuse me the paradox in how gradual the learning the process is and how quickly he can pick up things!!
So on to butternut squash today! Yay! And welcome my dear friends and family- we hope you enjoy the ride!
